Does everyone know about this?
You're running out of time to get your $8000 or $6500 credit. April 30th is the date to have an accepted offer by, June 30th is the date to have closed by. This credit applies to first time home buyers ($8000) as well as current home owners ($6500).
Check it out. If you're thinking about moving, now is a great time.

be careful on advising the current homeowners one. there are some restrictions that people don't realize
When we had our taxes done this year there was a couple that traded in both cars and used cash for clunkers, got married and bought a first home with credits and had new windows installed with credits. They were shocked when they found out how many thousands they owed for the free money they used. Some folks have not a drop of smarts. I was amazed the amount of spending they did in one year.
based on what you lay out, the only reason they would have actually owed was not due to the fact of getting all the tax credits - this would have wiped out a lot of tax liability. It was that they had minimal withholding, large stock gains (prob not too likely), a business, or, what I suspect, large withdrawals from retirement accounts which trigger a 10% penalty. The free money for the credits is truly free (well, minus the amounts we pay for tax I guess). The residential energy credit is still in effect for 2010, so you may want to consider....
We just stop at home depot the clunkers money for energy savings ended saturday in wisconsin. Each state got a certain amount.
All four of the taxes credits were considered as income of almost 20k. Nothing is free, expect dreams
